When I first came across Chickenfoot, I was excited. For those who don't know, Chickenfoot is a "supergroup" consisting of Van Halen vets Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani. I have been a Satriani fan for a long time now and am amazed by his talent.
That said, this CD tries too hard. Its only saving grace is Satriani's guitar. I've never been a big fan Sammy Hagar, and I feel his yelling at me throughout the CD grows boring quickly. I really tried to like this album. Honestly. Every song I found myself eargly awaiting Satriani's solo so I could skip to the next song and hear his next solo. The CD's best song and the first single "Oh Yeah" is well worth the listen. The whole CD is solid if you happen to be a Hagar fan.
The band is made up of very talented musicians, but this CD does not meld together the way I hoped it would. If they keep at, perhaps the next CD will be better. If nothing else, we all have more Satriani music to enjoy.
