Fucking Awesome Friday: SoaD Toxicity Cover

Friday, December 11, 2009
This is just fucking awesome. Three hot chicks cover System of a Down's Toxicity using Violins. The crazy hot (and talented!) drummer's name is Meytal Cohen. I'm told that it is her real name. Thats one of the most metal things I've ever heard! If I wasn't already (practically) married, I'd be in love. Watch the video below

Dan Bull - Dear Mandy [an open letter to Lord Mandelson]

Sunday, November 29, 2009
Our friends across the pond are having serious problems with privacy and internet censorship. Apparently fed up, Hip-hop/Dub artist Dan Bull made a musical open letter to influential British politician Peter Mandelson who is pushing a controversial Digital Economy Bill. Though if it ever reaches Mandy, it would probably fall on deaf ears. I don't like to do too much political stuff on here, so I'll let Dan's video speak for itself.

Down with censorship!

Take back the Horns! \m/

Tuesday, November 24, 2009
Radio personality, Twisted Sister frontman, and Tipper Gore fan Dee Snider has launched a website dedicated to the proper use of the Metal Horns hand sign. He says he's fed up with the misuse of the Metal Horns and is trying to educate the world.

From the site:

Well, it seemed like I couldn’t open a magazine or turn on the television from that point on without seeing some usurper to our symbol, “throwing the Metal Horns!” And not just Country Western artists. Hip Hop artists, pop singers, jam bands, boy bands, jazz musicians, pop divas, pop divos, R&B singers, ‘tween rockstars, hell, I even saw a photo of Miley Cyrus--Miss Hanna Montana herself--throwing the horns...and smiling! What the hell is going on?!
In typical Dee Snider fashion, the site has lots of information about the history of the horns, why they have become generic (hint: its all Jon Bon Jovi's fault) as well as forums and a picture gallery where you can rate how metal a picture is.  It's definately entertaining and worth checking out.  Finally a cause I can get behind!

have you ever heard of a Hammered Dulcimer?

Sunday, November 22, 2009
I'm sorry to say I've never heard of this instrument before. It appears to be a cross between a xylophone and a harp. I could hit up Wikipedia for more info, but I'd rather just link you this video. Very cool.

Saturday Electronic: 10000 Homo DJ's: Supernaut (Trent Reznor Mix)

Saturday, November 21, 2009
Yes, two saturdays in a row with Trent. No Trent next week I promise. Anyway, here is Al Jourgensen and Trent Reznor teaming up for Supernaut.

Dear Slash, WTF!?

Dear Slash,

I've been a fan of yours for years. You were a rock God with GNR, I loved Velvet Revolver, and I even liked some of your solo stuff, but this shit has to stop. I understand why you are taking the Santana route with newest album, but this is a travesty. Why in the all that is unholy would you rehash old GNR songs like this. I know you can play Paradise City while drunk and high and possibly jerking off, but this is horrible. Its not even that I don't like your choice of guest appearances. I love Cypress Hill. I love (looking at) Fergie. This just doesn't work. It doesn't even have the same soul as the original song. It is a sad, hallow attempt to recapture former glory. This is the worst remake I have heard since Fergie's remake of Barracuda.

Speaking as a fan, please stop this insanity. Find yourself a new band where the singer isn't going to burn out on drugs and do what you do best, create great music. Nobody wants to hear you rehash your old songs like your former friend Axl has been doing for years.

-Xaero

For everyone else, here is what I'm talking about:

Fucking Awesome Friday: Miksha-shop

Friday, November 20, 2009
Norwegian metal band Miksha released an excellent video showing the many uses of their new CD The Vulture Conspiracy in a Billy Mays/Slapchop style infomercial. But wait, is that their song Morphine playing in the video?  You bet it is! Kudos to Miksha for going there!

MetalSucks blog

Thursday, November 19, 2009
I stumbled upon the Metal Sucks blog and had to share it.

From their site:

From an image perspective, there is no music genre like metal. Metal resembles an unbelievable variety of ridiculous fauna, nonsense, useless evilness, tons of wasted face paint, low-cost leather and hopeless wankers. Our belief is to show this funny world to the World.

Be sure to check out their site for more pictures!

HYPOCRISY Forced To Cancel North American Tour

Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Appearently, US Immigration is as incompetent as I've always been lead to believe. The Swedish Metal band that's fronted by Pain's Peter Tägtgren had to cancel their US tour because our immigration system can't get their act together. Hopefully they will get it all worked out and add more dates (Nightwish can make it to Louisville, why can't you, Peter?)

Saturday Electronic: NIN: 14 Ghosts

Saturday, November 14, 2009
I know, I know. Trent is usually considered Industrial and not Electronic, but the 14th track of his amazing Ghosts collection is more Electronic than anything. I assume the video came from the YouTube poster, as it wasn't even close to what Trent does in concert with this track

Fucking Awesome Friday: Rammstein - Pussy

Friday, November 13, 2009
I'm sure you've all seen Rammstein's video for their new sing Pussy. In case you haven't, basically it's a full on porno. (NSFW) I'm making this the FAF for this week because Germany is banning the sale of the new album because of "lyrics of a sado-masochistic nature". Seriously. Their last few albums haven't been nearly as good as their older stuff, but this is the same band that did Bestrafe Mich and Bück Dich. Which, BTW, weren't banned in their home country.

You don't even need any hands on the mouse. ;)

Fucking Awesome Friday - Lucille Bogan - Shave 'em Dry (1935)

Friday, October 30, 2009
The fact that I am writing about a woman who recorded a song in 1935 immediately means she is more famous than I will ever be. The fact the subject matter at hand (prostitution, VD, hot dogs and hallways)would make Eminem blush and Brotha Lynch Hung salute means it must be time for another FAF. Yes, I dropped not one but two rap refernces on your ass. Fuck off, not all rap is bad. Watch the fucking awesome video below. I promise its not rap.

Korn teaming up with original producer for new album

Wednesday, October 28, 2009
Korn is teaming up with producer Ross Robinson, who produced the first two Korn albums (and many more!) for their upcoming album. Blabbermouth transcribed an interview with James "Munky" Shaffer that I am now going to leech off of.

The whole record's all organic — it's all guitars, bass, drums and Jonathan's [Davis, vocals] raw emotion, and it's just... man. Some of the stuff that Ross is pulling out of Jonathan, it's just like, 'Wow!' You can feel the energy, the pain, whatever it might be he's singing about that day.
When I come up with a riff, or Fieldy [bassist Reginald Arvizu] comes up with a riff, [we'll be like], 'It's OK.' And then Ross will say, 'Keep playing it. Try to develop it more.' And then when Ray steps in and puts his beats down, it could be the crappiest riff ever, but he starts playing to it, and it's like, 'Bam!' It turns it up on ten

I basically really liked everything I heard Munky say in the interview.

My biggest problem with Korn for the last several albums has been the formulatic approach to music. Each song sounds the same with different riff and tempo. I would love to hear some of the more orignal and inspired work. Ross Robinson has produced a lot of great albums over the years. The original Korn lineup was filled with talent, and Robinson has a way of pulling that talent out of musicians. This news makes me finally look forward to a new Korn album.

Best.Bootleg.Ever. NIN's complete The Downward Spiral performance

Monday, October 26, 2009
Found via Metal Injuction:

One NIN fanatic searched far and wide and found 11 different people at the show who bootleged it (in HD nonetheless!), they edited it and now, presumably with Trent’s blessing, the entire show is online and downloadable for FREE.
Wow.. 11 people bootlegging the same concert in HIGH DEF. From what I've seen so far, this is the best bootleg EVER. Click here to download it.  I've embedded a bit of the video below.

So this is what a goat would sound like if they could sing....

One of those things I've always wondered. Thanks to YouTube, I now know the answer.

Thanks Kevin!

DETHKLOK meets Brutal Legend's Eddie Riggs

Saturday Electronic: Juno Reactor: Pistolero

Saturday, October 24, 2009
If you are not familiar with Juno Reactor, you are missing out. This is one of the most badass electronic/techo/whatever songs ever recorded. I'm not sure if the video is legit, but its cool regardless. The song is from the soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He also did a lot of the music for the second two Matrix movies.

Retro-Music: Jack Off Jill - Strawberry Gashes

Some retro-chick rock for you. Jack Off Jill was a mostly all girl band in the 90's. After they broke up, the singer went on to form Scarling. Here is their song Strawberry Gashes. Even if your remotely interested in this, you should check out their other stuff.  These ladies know how to rock.

Fucking Awesome Friday - Lets go smoke some pot!

Friday, October 16, 2009
Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been busy at work and home this week. But don't worry! FAF is still here!

Your FAF for this Friday is a song about a subject near and dear to my heart.  Not that I would ever engage in any illegal activities, but I've heard that marijuana makes crappy music sound better.

I have also heard the Spin Doctors smoke pot. I like to think that this is just a nasty rumor.

Fucking Awesome Friday - Street Sweeper Social Club - Promenade

Review: Krypteria - My Fatal Kiss

Wednesday, October 7, 2009
Krypteria's new album, My Fatal Kiss, is out in stores now (if you happen to live in Europe).

The first thing to strike me about this album is the lack of anger portrayed though out their last CD, Bloodangel's Cry. Ji-In Cho, the singer, instead seems to have moved passed the pissed off stage and is dealing with sadness, loneliness, new love, among others. That does not mean that this CD is depressing, just that they portray a wider array of emotions.

Video: Bobaflex - Home

Monday, October 5, 2009
A somewhat older video for you all to enjoy. This song isn't their normal sound, but its still great. I saw these guys live opening for Dope in Columbus, and are they crazy. Like hanging from the rafters, doing shots-in-the-crowd-after-their-set crazy. I would recommend seeing them live if you have the chance.

Their singer and lead guitar will switch for different songs, and one of them is a McCoy.. from the Hatfield and McCoy fame.

Fucking Awesome Friday - World's fastest sign rapper, deaf and blind does Eminem's Lose Yourself

Friday, October 2, 2009

OK, his level of deaf (not to be confused with "def") and blindness may be debatable but nonetheless this is absolutely FAF material. The whole song Lose Yourself, done entirely in sign language, done in one take.  I dare any non-deaf, non-blind person to do this. And if you do, I'm sorry, you need a girlfriend and a new hobby. Therefore, you lose and I win yet again. As normal, check the video below for the awesome in action!

Brutal Legend (Game)

At the recommendation of a friend, I downloaded the demo for Brutal Legend on my Xbox. Seeing the commercials on TV, I assumed it was a Guitar Hero/Rock Band clone.  Well its not. Its a beautifully animated piece of metal mayhem that reminds me of Diablo. I have always been one that prefers my games on the PC, but im considering buying this one. Voiced by Jack Black, the games takes you through the life of a roadie who has been sucked into the magical metal underworld ruled by a evil emperor. You use your axe and your axe (literally an axe) to kill druids and demon spawns with the help of your hot love interest.

Brutal Legned features voice acting from Jack Black, Ozzie, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and Tim Curry. The soundtrack features a ton of songs, including Dethklok, Def Leopard, Black Sabbath, Rob Zombie, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Static-X and many, many more.

My only real gripe is this:  Only EA would put a Do Not Pirate message that you could not skip at the beginning of DEMO. A fucking DEMO. Where you are trying to get as many people exposed to the game using FREE as an incentive.

Krypteria - For You I'll Bring the Devil Down

Thursday, October 1, 2009
The lead single off of Krypteria's new CD is not your typical mushy love song. No, it's a hard rocking symphonic assault that pits singer Ji-In against her doppelganger. mmm... Ji-In x2. This video can't be bad.

Watch the video below.

Be sure to check back for my review of the full album.

Genitorturers...

Wednesday, September 30, 2009
...are still around? I'll be damned. Appearently their new CD "Blackheart Revolution" is available for preorder on their site now.  They will be rolling through Columbus on October 3rd.

Also, their single "CUM JUNKIE " is available as a vinyl 7.

If you don't know, Genitorturers are a lot like Lords of Acid content wise, but much more metal and less electronic.

Deftones to release new album

Tuesday, September 29, 2009
According to MetalHammer, The Deftones are planning on releasing a new album before 2010. The front man, Chino Moreno, says that “It has our core sound but it’s different again from our other records. We just know that we’ve got a killer record that we’re all proud of. You’ll understand why when you hear it.”

Honestly, a lot of times the Deftones sound is too whiney for my tastes. They are known for doing something different with each album, so you know it'll be at least worth a listen.

Alice in Chains return with Black Gives Way to Blue

Monday, September 28, 2009
Sometimes... you just wish a band would be allowed to die. Guns 'n' Roses and Metallica come to mind.

Sometimes... even after losing big, a band can carry on as good as ever. Ala AC/DC and Metallica (post Cliff Burton; pre 'Load')

Jerry Cantrell's newly reformed Alice in Chains with singer William DuVall falls into the latter category. Black Gives Way to Blue does not try to imitate what made AIC legendary, but evolves it. With thundering bass and drums, heavy guitars, and powerful and personal lyrics, Cantrell and friends are going through a deep dark and personal Hell... and bringing you along with them. Even though he is no longer among us, Layne's influence can be found throughout the album.

Judas Priest frontman to release....Christmas album?

Sunday, September 27, 2009
Rob Halford, the leatherclad leader of Judas Priest that somehow shocked the nation when he came out of the closet Rob Halford, is set to release a Christmas Album(!). That's right. I can't make this shit up.

The album will be released on Halford's own Metal God label (!!) on October 26 (!!!). Releasing a Christmas album on a metal label? That's metal. Releasing a Christmas album in October? This better be the most metal Christmas album ever.

I can envision Christmas Metal classics such as Breaking the Chestnuts on an Open Fire, and Holly Jolly Christmas after Midnight.

The album is available for Pre-Order now at http://www.metalgodshop.com/

Fucking Awesome Friday - Death Metal Miley Cyrus vs Disney Slipknot

I feel that Fridays call for something fucking awesome, so I'm proud to introduce Fucking Awesome Friday. FAF will feature an awesome, wtf, or generally entertaining music related video.  For the inagural FAF, I decided to make it a doube shot of awesomesauce.

First up we have Slipknot - Wait and Bleed (Radio Disney Version).  This is awesome beyond description.

And just to keep things fair and balanced, here is Miley Cyrus - The Climb (Metal Version)

I can't stop laughing at the Disney-pop Slipknot. These were done by the awesome Andy Rehfeldt. Check out his Myspace for more mashup-awesomeness!

Please leave a comment about who you think wins this round! ;)

Kittie - In the Black

I must admit that Kittie has fallen off my radar in recent years. All their albums since Oracle have suffered from one fatal flaw. They are able to come up with some damn good riffs, then blow it as soon as Morgan Lander, the vocalist, opened her mouth. After hearing some things here and there about their latest effort, I decided to check it out. And I am glad I did. While not going down as a classic, In The Black is easily their best effort since Oracle.

Alice in Chains short film discussing Layne and William

Thursday, September 24, 2009
Last week Alice in Chains released a short 12 minute film discussing Layne and the new album. It features interviews with all the band members. They discuss the touring they did with William and how the new album came to be. Check it out below.

Chickenfoot - The Not so Supergroup

When I first came across Chickenfoot, I was excited.  For those who don't know, Chickenfoot is a "supergroup" consisting of Van Halen vets Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony,  Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani.  I have been a Satriani fan for a long time now and am amazed by his talent.
