A quick review of albums new and old that I have been playing lately. So here it goes.
Ozzy Osbourne - Scream: Meh. I had high hopes after liking Black Rain. At least Zakk Wylde will be able to keep his good riffs for himself now.
Die Krupps - Too Much History: I'm embarassed I haven't gotten into this band earlier. Sounds like KMFDM meets Rammstein, and thats a good thing.
I:Scintilla - Optics: Less Auto-tune, more bass and they may have something. There are a few good songs that will find their way into my playlists. (The Bells, Machine Vision)
Angelspit - Black Kingdom Red Kingdom: Now this is a band that can thump. I've not had songs hit this hard since the days I used to cruise around with Bass CDs and rattle windows. WARNING: May blow your crappy stock speakers.
Porcupine Tree - The Incident: Everytime I try to listen, I get bored. I like prog, but so far have been unable to get through this album.
X-Ray Dog: I've you've seen a movie trailer in the past 5 years, you have most likely heard some of their work. Epic orchestral music is good, and since its written for trailers its usually short...which keeps songs from dragging on.

Some great music in a decent game! If you haven't played "The Darkness" yet, I recommend giving it a try!
Classic Metal Bands - Overkill - 2
Monday, May 3, 2010
My personal favorite, with perhaps the most brutal bass guitar sound ever recorded.
Classic Metal Bands - Overkill
One of the original Thrash bands from the 80's. One of their classic songs.
Bass player in this group is awesome!
Classic Metal Bands - Candlemass
Friday, April 30, 2010
Something newer from them. The were godfathers of the "Doom" metal genre.
Good Stuff.
Classic Metal bands - Artillery
Thursday, April 29, 2010
Here's a recent video by a band that I loved in the 80's, a great Thrash band. Awesome stuff.

TPT - Things the same 25 years later?
Thursday, April 22, 2010
25 years ago, jazz musician Paul Hardcastle, released the song "19".
The song was a serious electronica song, based on samples, very fresh for its day.
This is the original.
For the 25th Anniversary, Paul has created a new version. For thought provoking thursday, I thought it seemed a good fit.
Reminds me of the Fallout games opening line "War, War never changes"
Here's the new version

FAF: Ozzy - Let Me Hear You Scream
Friday, April 16, 2010
Its time again for another FAF. Unfortunately there is no video, but here is a stream of Ozzy's BRAND NEW song "Let Me Hear You Scream". Sadly, Ozzy and longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde split ways last year, but new axeman Gus G steps up admirably. If you didn't like any of Black Rain, then you probably won't like this. If your not a stuck up prude who thinks that good music stopped when Nirvana exploded, well, enjoy.
I ripped this from Noisecreep. Please pay them a visit.

Fucking Awesome Friday - Cypress Hill-Rise Up feat. Tom Morello
Yeah, this is a week or two old, but still fucking awesome. Cypress Hill pulls off a song that is reminiscent of Rage Against The Machine by using Rage's guitarist Tom Morello. Cypress Hill has a great ear for Rap-Rock songs, and this a perfect example. Enjoy!
Fucking Awesome Friday - Dark Side of the NES
Friday, April 2, 2010
As a child I spent a lot of time playing NES and listening to Pink Floyd, so when I tell you this is one of the most fucking awesome things I've ever encountered, you know I'm not kidding.

Have you ever wondered what Dark Side of the Moon would sound like if Pink Floyd had written it for NES, instead of for a rock band?Wonder no more. Full album is available in MP3 from MOON8

Friday, March 12, 2010
What can I say..this Irish punk band just makes me want to pick up a fifth of Knob Creek Jameson and start chugging. What is not to like? It has pirates. Its an awesome video. It inspires drinking. It makes me laugh. It doesn't have ninjas.

WTF Wednesday Presents: The next big thing in music
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Because I love you all so much, I have to share with you the future of music. This band, Xe-NONE has relealed a song called Angels that is indescribable, but I'll try anyway. Take the Generic Guitar Riff #2, add Generic Techo Beat #1, Basic Drumline #3, a "growling" singer and a europop wanna be idol and mix them together.
I give you, THIS:

FAF Doubleshot: Twice as awesome
Friday, March 5, 2010
I didn't post a FAF last week, but that's because I had nothing of the quality normally available for your FAF to post. However, I found both of these FAF worthy videos this week: hence you have a doubleshot to make up for it!
First up: i09 has a great write up about the upcoming new Gorillaz album, including the new CG video with special cameo.Unfortunately.. Embeding has been disabled. Boo. Hit the link for the video
Not at all least: OK Go - This Too Shall Pass is a single-shot Rube Goldberg device timed to the lyrics and "rythm" of the song.
OK GO have really embraced the single-shot off-beat videos and made it their own style. YOU GO OK GO!!

In Which Warner Music Goes Bankrupt
Friday, February 12, 2010
Warner Music Group, one of the 4 big labels, has announced that they stop all free online streaming of their label's music. Services such as Last.Fm, Pandora, and Spotify will not be affected currently, as this plan so far only effects new streaming services. A quote from Warner chief executive Edgar Bronfman Jr states:
On the flip side, say you are signed to Warner. I'm no musician, but if I were I would definitely want as many people as possible to hear my music. Obscurity is a bigger threat than piracy to all but a handful of artists. Now the people who control your music just announced that they are making it more difficult for people to be exposed to your music. How does this help the artists that the label is supposed to represent?
This also ruins my plans for my music streaming service I had been dreaming up. Without such Warner acts as Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones, DevilDriver, Dio, Disturbed, Dream Theatre, Faith No More, Garbage, HIM, Jane's Addiction, Megadeth, Günther & The Sunshine Girls (ooooh, you touch my tra la la.. its classic!).. well you get the idea. Its just not worth it. Its a shame too. I was going to call it XM, and it was going to be HUGE I tell you! Huge.
Way to doom your artists to obscurity Edgar.
"The 'get all your music you want for free, and then maybe with a few bells and whistles we can move you to a premium price' strategy is not the kind of approach to business that we will be supporting in the future."Edgar is entitled to his opinion and to run his business as he sees fit, however I cannot fathom how he thinks this is a good move. The sale of plastic disks has been declining as more people go online to find and buy music. The more people that hear your music on services like those mentioned above, the more potential buyers you have.

For now, I bring back Fucking Awesome Fridays with a post relevant to the situation: To Blog or Not to Blog. Enjoy!
